HÅG x Recouture: Heritage Craft Meets a Design Icon at NeoCon

Hawthorne, CA—May 15, 2026

Furniture brand HÅG, part of Flokk, presents its collaboration with Norwegian studio Recouture at NeoCon 2026, unveiling a series of one-of-a-kind HÅG Capisco chairs reimagined with vintage åkle—a traditional handwoven Norwegian tapestry textile once found in homes across the country.

The project brings together two distinct design traditions: the sculptural, ergonomic form of the HÅG Capisco, originally designed by Peter Opsvik, and the rich material history embedded in åkle. The result is a collection of chairs that merge heritage craft with contemporary workplace design.

Recouture, founded by fashion designer Hilde Hoff Nordskar, specializes in restoring and repurposing garments and textiles made from vintage åkle. Each textile carries its own variations in color, structure, and age—making every åkle-backed HÅG Capisco entirely unique.

“Working with åkle means working with something that already has a life,” says Nordskar. “You respond to the textile, not the other way around. Bringing it into a contemporary chair like the HÅG Capisco creates a new chapter without erasing the old one.”

Each chair features a carefully selected piece of åkle, paired with a chosen metal finish and complemented by premium wool fabric from Gudbrandsdalens Uldvarefabrik (GU), woven in Norway. Because every textile behaves differently, the process requires precision, sensitivity to material, and iterative development. The final pieces bring together industrial production and handcraft, highlighting the strengths of both.

“HÅG has always designed with longevity in mind,” says HÅG Brand Manager Svein Erik Husby. “This collaboration extends that philosophy by giving historic textiles a new place in the modern workspace. The HÅG Capisco is already recognizable for its unique form—combining it with åkle adds another layer of cultural and material meaning.”

NeoCon Exclusive: Limited Editions and Giveaway

At NeoCon, HÅG is showcasing three special-edition åkle-backed HÅG Capisco chairs created exclusively for the Chicago showroom. One of these chairs will be awarded through an on-site giveaway, with the winner invited to select their preferred design. The chair will be delivered in Fall 2026 following the exhibition.

Hilde Hoff Nordskar will be present at NeoCon on Sunday and Monday, including the Press Preview on Sunday, June 7 from 12:00–2:00 PM, offering media the opportunity to engage directly with the designer and learn more about her process.

Commission Your Own

Alongside the NeoCon presentation, HÅG and Recouture are offering a limited-time opportunity to commission a bespoke åkle backed HÅG Capisco chair through August 30, 2026. Clients can collaborate directly with Recouture to create a one-of-a-kind piece—either using a personal heirloom textile or selecting from Nordskar’s curated collection. Each chair becomes a singular object shaped by its material history—furniture as storytelling, carrying its past into its future.
