Build Freely: Modularity Takes Center-Stage at Stylex for NeoCon 2026
DELANCO, NJ (May 15, 2026)
Stylex welcomes the design community to Build Freely, a celebration of modular design that begins, fittingly, with a brick. SoftBrick, the brand’s newest lounge collection, is the soft modular building block at the heart of the showroom.
Designed by Creative Director Carole Baijings, the showroom is shaped by structure and animated by color, showcasing SoftBrick alongside other recent modular collections, including Luna and Ambi, and demonstrating how a single environment can flex, scale, and adapt to the way people actually work. Each collection on display is designed to be combined and recombined, composing environments that flow with the day, the team, and the task at hand. Pops of color throughout the space draw on Stylex’s distinctively expansive range of colorways in both powder-coated finishes and textiles, giving designers a way to specify a customized look while keeping the room cohesive.
Modularity is at the heart of every choice in the Stylex showroom. Today’s environments must support flow, customization, and connection. The most successful spaces meet people where they are and give them what they need as they move through the day. A custom installation from artist Erika Hock translates that idea into something tactile. Her softly flowing curtains, crafted from dyed string, drape through the showroom as a sculptural counterpart to its modular geometry, guiding visitors through the space with warmth and color.
“I wanted to lean into a sense of warmth and comfort with our showroom this year, while showcasing our incredible range of modular solutions and highlighting our expansive color selection,” says Baijings. “Commercial settings don’t have to feel cold or clinical. Color, texture, and soft finishes can transform a space into one that it is inviting; a space that people find joy. The soft sculptural presence of Erika Hock’s curtain installation emphasizes this. It was such a pleasure to work with her on this space, and I’m delighted to be able to share the finished result with NeoCon visitors this year.”
“What struck me about Stylex is that they design for comfort the way I think about texture: color, softness, the feeling of a space holding you,” says Hock. “The curtains are my response to that. A sculptural form built from dyed string that absorbs light, releases color and softens the architecture around it.”
Throughout NeoCon, Stylex will be giving away two considered pieces: a limited run of custom pouches, handmade in-house from repurposed textiles in partnership with Kvadrat, and signed copies of Hock’s book, on display in the showroom. Both reflect Stylex’s ongoing commitment to circularity, craft, and the artists and makers who shape its work.
PRODUCT HIGHLIGHTS
Introducing SoftBrick: Exquisite Comfort in Modular Lounge Seating
SoftBrick is a new modular lounge system designed in collaboration with the Italian duo LucidiPevere. SoftBrick represents the design studio’s third partnership with Stylex, following the release of the Underline and Oko collections. Known for their cross-disciplinary approach, Paolo Lucidi and Luca Pevere bring a thoughtful balance of experimentation and refinement to each project. Their process—independent exploration followed by rigorous collaboration—results in designs that feel both innovative and resolved.
With SoftBrick, Stylex and LucidiPevere deliver a system that is as comfortable as it is configurable— an inviting foundation for spaces that prioritize both experience and expression. True to its name, SoftBrick balances softness and structure, pairing exceptional comfort with an architectural aesthetic and versatility. Among the most comfortable seating solutions in workplace lounge seating, SoftBrick brings a distinctly residential feel into contract environments, making it equally suitable for hospitality, workplace, and public settings. In a category defined by flexibility, SoftBrick sets itself apart by prioritizing how it feels to sit alongside configurability.
A range of seat shapes and dual seat height options enable an expansive variety of configurations, supporting everything from intimate lounge groupings to large-scale installations. The modular plinth base, paired with a broad selection of powder coat finishes, allows designers to create tailored compositions with clarity and cohesion.
Introducing Rela: Architecture and Ease Come Together in this Ergonomic Task Chair
Rela is a new task chair designed in collaboration with Italian-born architect and designer Claudio Bellini, founder of Milan-based CLAUDIO BELLINI Studio. Defined by clarity of form and intuitive comfort, Rela reflects a thoughtful balance of architectural precision and human-centered design.
With its refined geometry and confident silhouette, Rela brings a sculptural presence to any environment. Despite its angularity, the chair conveys a sense of softness and ease, an uncommon quality in task seating, making it equally suited to workplace and residential settings. At its core is an integrated flex system that delivers responsive support while maintaining a clean, minimal profile, moving naturally with the user and offering a level of ergonomic performance not typically found in design-forward seating.
A range of options enhances Rela’s versatility. Back heights include low, mid, and high configurations, while arm offerings range from armless to aluminum loop arms — with or without caps — and fully upholstered options. Upholstery is available in both standard and ruched expressions, complemented by a curated palette of 24 powder coat finishes and cylinder options in black, milk, chrome, and light grey.
