JASPER, Ind., Jul. 29, 2025 — In the early days of COVID, healthcare spaces were being stretched, rearranged, and reimagined in real time. For the JSI team, one question rose to the surface: How do we make change easier for the people doing the work and the people receiving care?
That question led to the idea behind MagLinx™, a magnetic connection system designed not just to link chairs and tables, but to free up time, reduce strain, and help environments evolve without disruption. Today, that idea becomes a milestone: as of July 29, 2025, MagLinx™ will officially hold U.S. Patent No. 12,369,712.
“MagLinx™ grew from watching facility teams struggle with brackets and tools, and asking ourselves, what if it didn’t have to be that hard?” said Jeremy Kibby, Lead Development Engineer at JSI. “This was never about making something flashy; it was about removing friction. About giving people back time and flexibility.”
MagLinx™ is now a core feature of JSI’s Satisse seating collection, a human-centered solution developed with healthcare designer Mike Shields. Recognized with a Nightingale Innovation Award in 2024, Satisse with MagLinx™ connects through a strong magnetic glide, no hardware, no tools, no stress. Furniture can shift from a tightly grouped configuration to open, individual seating in minutes. For healthcare systems and facilities, that means faster reconfiguration, fewer interruptions, and cost savings through future-ready flexibility.
“MagLinx™ is about honoring the real work being done in these spaces,” said Shields. “It’s about designing for the people who move through them, caregivers, patients, families, and giving them options that work, with ease and dignity.”
From a design standpoint, it’s a small detail. But from a human one, it can mean everything. Satisse with MagLinx™ allows spaces to adapt in ways that are intuitive, supportive, and sustainable. “This patent is a milestone, but more than that, it’s a reflection of how we design … with empathy, with purpose, and always with people in mind,” said Mike Wagner, President and CEO of JSI. “It’s a modern-day extension of something we’ve believed in since the beginning: that simple, thoughtful details can shape how people feel in a space.”
JSI’s history of patent-worthy ideas goes back more than a century. In the 1890s, the company held one of the industry’s first patents for the dust-free tambour curtain on a roll top desk. Today, MagLinx™ carries that same spirit forward, fusing practical design with quiet ingenuity, made to serve real people in real moments. This marks JSI’s first issued patent in recent years, with additional patents currently pending for the Kindera recliner and Anthology conference program with the Bridgeline base system.
