Hightower launches Gimbal Jr., wins first Best of NeoCon award
A new, adaptive soft seating option designed by Hightower® Studio, was launched this week at Hightower’s Chicago showroom during NeoCon, winning a Silver award for Guest Seating by the Best of NeoCon jury. Gimbal Jr. is a modern, eye-catching design, a statement piece with a unique and memorable experience built-in. Based in user empathy, it welcomes the human form through comfort and movement.
Hightower’s original Gimbal Rocker Lounge was created with a gimbal mechanism allowing for a very slight rocking motion to help users expel just enough energy for a longer (and calmer) duration of sit. It’s been said that this subtle movement can be an effective solution for “fidgeters,” those who experience a lack of focus, restlessness, and even memory retention issues while seated for extended periods. Fast forward to 2021, when the contract furniture industry experienced significant shifts in user demand. As a result of a global pandemic, users increasingly embraced more of a residential vibe for their seating options influenced by months of working from home. 2022 seemed the perfect time for the Hightower Studio team to answer the market with a highly flexible lounge that not only embraced the human form, but also one with multiple movement styles.
Rock, Roll, or Swivel:
With 3 distinct versions, Hightower’s Gimbal Jr. offers specifiers a wide range of options providing limitless possibilities for today’s interior spaces:
- Gimbal Jr. Rocker, with a subtle, gentle rock
- Gimbal Jr. Swivel, available in two swivel versions
- Gimbal Jr. Wheeler, with soft or hard casters—the “portable” Gimbal that glides on demand
North Carolina craftspersons at Hightower’s High Point facility upholster Gimbal Jr. with intentional “comfort folds” giving the seat and back seaming more durability while adding an unexpected and sophisticated detail. Gimbal Jr. cradles the lower back with an embracing support thanks to down-filled pillow inserts.
Gimbal Jr. can be ordered with an optional Pivot Table for right or left-handedness, which requires no assembly, and includes a double-articulating motion with 360-degree rotation. This makes Gimbal Jr. a perfect solution for educational interiors. The easy mobility of Gimbal Jr. means it can switch from a collaborative group arrangement to a solo nook for focused heads-down time.
