Hightower Continues Ocee & Four Design Partnership with Share Collection
SEATTLE — The newest line from Hightower is the Share Collection, a seating solution developed in partnership with Ocee & Four Design and Danish design duo Strand + Hvass. Share is the latest expression of Hightower’s Considered Solutions ethos, the company’s ongoing commitment to designing furniture that responds to how people live, work, and gather.
Share began with a simple observation: given the freedom, people rarely sit just one way. The designers translated that natural behavior into an open, split-back form built around movement rather than encouraging a specific posture. The design invites users to sit forward, backward, or sideways, engaging the chair from a different angle each time.
“Our experience is that if people are allowed to move and feel free, then you’ll actually feel more active and creative,” said Strand + Hvass, designers of the Share Collection.
Shawn Sowers, Hightower’s Vice President of Design, added, “Flexibility is probably the strongest benefit of this piece. It lets people sit in different orientations, which has its own kind of appeal. It’s also a thin, light chair that’s easy to move.”
That ease of movement carries through the collection’s range of options. Share spans four-leg, swivel, and wheeler bases, plus counter- and bar-height options, including a 22.5″ ADA-compatible counter-height model for more accessible settings. Paired with the Wheeler and InnoTab®, Share becomes a mobile work surface that can travel throughout a floorplan, from conference rooms and classrooms to training spaces and informal collaboration areas. The four-leg chair stacks 12 high on its own or 28 on the Ocee & Four Design Universal Trolley, and it’s compatible with Ocee & Four Design table suspension brackets for faster interior resets.
Longevity was built into Share from its earliest design stages, starting with how easily it can be “renewed” onsite.
“One of the best sustainability features of Share is how easy it is to fix in the field,” Sowers said. “If a part gets worn, you don’t replace the whole chair — you replace that piece. That’s a cost benefit for our customers, but it’s also a real sustainability benefit: less material heading to the landfill, and less manufacturing spent replacing something that didn’t need to go anywhere in the first place.”
That same thinking extends to Share’s eventual end of use. The collection is built without permanent glues or bonds, so it comes apart cleanly when it is no longer being utilized in a space.
“There are no permanent glues or bonds holding Share together,” Sowers added. “At the end of its life, it disassembles easily. That kind of circularity is something we think about from the start, not as an afterthought. And with as much wood as this piece has, there’s a biophilic benefit too; it brings a real sense of calm into a space.”
Additionally, Share is Indoor Advantage Gold certified and Red List Free, with most models rated to 400 lbs. and tested to applicable ANSI/BIFMA standards. Replaceable components and disassembly support a longer, more considered product life, backed by a 25-year warranty on four-leg chairs and stools, and 10 years on Swivel and Wheeler models.
