Starting as a small typewriter repair and office supply store in the late 1940s, no one could have envisioned the growth that this third generation, the family-owned company would see. Now 79 years later, COE Distributing is the nation’s largest wholesale distributor of office furniture.

Because of the company’s fast-paced growth, J.D. Ewing, President, and CEO knew that an expansion of the Smock, PA warehouse was needed. After six years of planning and two years of hard work and construction, the expansion was finally accomplished. This distribution center now boasts 270,000 square feet and is something that Ewing is proud to show off to both the community and the team members, who now have a welcoming, bright, and spacious work environment.

And while the building is much larger, it is still environmentally friendly and energy efficient. A light gathering feature, motion detecting lights, and skylights, all help to reduce the amount of energy used.

Ewing is also extremely grateful for all the contractors and local companies that helped make the expansion possible and is humbled by the community support over the years. It is because of the continued support and help by all, that COE is continuing to grow. The company now has two operational distribution centers, the one here in PA and the second in Charlotte, NC. A third distribution center is also opening this fall in Houston, TX. Ewing is hopeful that it will be operational by October.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony, that COE celebrated on May 10^th, for their PA warehouse is just the beginning. Both Ewing and COE are not going anywhere, anytime soon!
