The Newton Collection is designed for learning and training spaces that transition naturally between instruction, collaboration, and everyday use, pairing adaptable functionality and durable materials with a warm and inviting design. While being previewed at NeoCon, the Newton Collection won both the Best of NeoCon Gold for Education Solutions and the Best of NeoCon People’s Choice awards.
Designed by Joey Ruiter, this collection came to life through conversations with educators, students, facilities managers, and designers to understand the changing landscape of learning spaces. It takes on new and innovative table shapes that encourage collaborative learning and movement throughout a space using softer corners and a slightly curved side. With a new approach to power integration, Newton has options available that are easy to update, ensuring longevity as technology rapidly changes. With smart engineering, the collection as a whole uses broad-ranging components which require minimal waste and a more simple production process— all contributing to an eco-friendly approach to manufacturing.
The Newton Collection includes wide-ranging solutions for students and instructors. It’s designed for communal learning spaces that support connection and communication — whether in a traditional classroom or corporate training space. Focused on movement, the Student Tables support flexibility throughout the classroom, coming in a range of shapes and sizes that work easily pulled together or independently. These are complemented by accent tables and standing-height collaborative tables that bring people together inside or outside the classroom. Keeping instructors top of mind, the collection includes a teacher desk and height-adjustable lectern. Both with a focus on organization and classroom connection, these pieces come complete with a range of options and accessories (like a pen tray, book tray, or bag hook— just to name a few) to support teachers as they lead the group.
To round out any learning setting, The Newton Collection is supported by thoughtful Casegoods and a mobile Connection Cart. The Casegoods provide easy storage and access to resources on hand. Coming in credenza, console, bench and tower options, they can be catered to any space’s needs. The Connection Cart brings a whiteboard and optional tackable surface that moves easily throughout the space, supporting flexible creativity and hands-on teamwork.
With nine product categories and hundreds of possible configurations across the family, this collection adds to it’s potential through a wide array of colors, materials, and finishes. Whether you’re looking to match school colors or find the most sustainable solution, SurfaceWorks has you covered with a range of durable and long-lasting options. Checking all of those boxes is our Urethane Edge, one of the solutions available for Newton tables. Made from a soybean oil, Urethane is indestructible, anti-viral, and impervious to bacteria— a perfect solution for an active classroom. As a bonus, it’s soft to the touch, making it easy on walls, other furniture, and the arms resting on the tables.
Product manager Kelsey Schilling shared that, “SurfaceWorks is incredibly proud to move our education offering forward with this collection. Prioritizing the need for human connection through education was a principle we stood by and successfully executed in bringing this product to life. And in doing so, we’ve created something that works inside and outside the classroom, but is sophisticated enough to bring into the corporate training world, too.”
