Obris by Jonas Wagell of JWDA
Obris is the result of our first collaboration with Swedish designer Jonas Wagell. The sofa collection with inviting proportions is the perfect balance of comfort and form. It’s clean lines, slim arm detailing and deep seat allows it to blend subtly wherever you rest; office or lounge.
An innovative upholstery technique on the outer body using a CNC – shaped steel frame and tensioned fabric adds comfort, weight reduction and light visuals.
Sofas are typically built with a base of plywood or steel with moulded polyurethane foam making the structure rigid and stiff. The Obris sofa however is constructed around a tube frame cladded with layers of laminated mesh and fabric providing a flexible surface on all sides.
This unique concept enables a thin and elegant form and a light expression to balance the solid base of the sofa. Although the concept is elegant, it’s primarily designed for function. As you lean back in the seat the soft walls bend under the weight and the sofa embraces you gently providing an unexpected level of comfort for such moderate dimensions.
From the outset Obris was destined to be a sofa with contradicting qualities. The desire was for a sofa that provides superior comfort while being restrained to compact dimensions. The Obris family has been created to meet strict commercial requirements while providing a soft and welcoming aesthetic with a domestic expression.
Obris also makes a statement as a freestanding piece and has been considered visually from all sides.
Obris was launched in Europe during Clerkenwell Design Week 2019 at our Creative Laboratory in London. The collection will launch in North America during NeoCon 2019, in our permanent showroom in the Merchandise Mart, Chicago.
